DIY Steampunk Ideas

The Steampunk genre, is very versatile and easy to achieve. There are many flavors of Steampunk, and it’s easy to Steamy flavor to your everyday or special occasion style.

For Ladies:

  1. Start with pants, long shorts, skirt, bloomers or gouchos in suit fabrics like tweed, herringbone, pinstripes, plaid, etc.
  2. On top,  corsets, lacy camisoles or lightweight Victorian type blouses in ivory and tea-stained tones work.
  3. Add a vest of herringbone, paisley or dark solids.
  4. Add accessories like grommetted belts, gloves, gauntlets and hip pouches.
  5. Victorian shoes or boots ranging from biker, combat to granny are a must.
  6. If you showing leg, add fishnet stockings or burlesque thigh-high socks with garter clips.
  7. Jewelry like Victorian cameos, industrial chain and goth beading works well.
  8. Top it off with a Steampunk Hat and Goggles.

For Gentlemen:

  1. Start with black or brown pants with pin stripes or industrial cargo pants for the working-man look.
  2. For shirts, wear a white button-up shirt (not button down), pirate shirt or dark print with paisley or pinstripe.
  3. Add a dark vest, chunky belt and a top coat, wooly sportcoat, pirate coat or tux tails.
  4. Footwear can be boots of any kind,  the more industrial the better.
  5. Add accessories like pocket watches, chained wallets, tool belts, small tools.
  6. Add a Steampunk Hat with Goggles.

Steampunk Your Hat :

  1. Add a hat band with grommets and lacing, or use a leather belt as a hat band.
  2. Add findings like chain, hardware, gears, furniture handles, antique keys, vintage buttons, feathers and Steampunk accessories.
  3. Glue: Pliobond brand glue is perfect because it works on any materials and stays flexible, versus Super Glue which dries brittle so things snap off.
