Sewing: The Lost Art
I believe that everyone should have basic sewing skills, and it doesn’t have to be tedious, frustrating or time-consuming. My goal is to empower people to become makers, to learn new skills which can lead to jobs or small businesses.

I teach learn-to-sew beginner, intermediate and advanced classes, including original upcycled design, industrial sewing, serging and pattern making. My style is Guerilla Sewing, with shortcuts, tricks and designer secrets for professional result. I specialize in beginner students and like to keep it fun. I specialize in beginners with no-tears instruction.

Encaustic Hot Wax Painting
Encaustic painting is an ancient hot beeswax medium, that is applied as hot molten pigmented beeswax. It pre-dates oil paint with it’s history rooted in ancient Egypt and Greece. The work encaustic means “to burn in” in Greek.

About the Medium: Beeswax is melted with Damar resin to make Encaustic medium. This is the base medium to which powdered pigment is added to create the encaustic paint. This medium is a sensuous tactile medium, that smells wonderful and begs to be layered.
How it Works: The tools include crock pots, a pancake griddle and a handheld open flame torch. The hot molten encaustic paint is applied to a wood substrate with a brush, then fused with the torch. Colors can be layers, segmented and scratched into. Objects can be imbedded into the wax. The possibilities are endless.
We cover the basics of encaustic painting, including how to make your own Encaustic paint. Workshops include all materials including wood substrates. No painting experience is needed.
Truckee Roundhouse Maker Space
Before Truckee Roundhouse opened in 2016, I was asked to be Textile Shop Lead Volunteer, to design the Textile shop and outfit it with tools, equipment, supplies, fabrics, notions, etc. It’s now my dream textile shop.
