Looking Back

Over the centuries, many wise people have said, “don’t look back”.

One of my favorite lines comes from Adam Plack, a didgeridoo musician from Melbourne whom I met in my Nature Company days. We were treated to a an intimate evening with Adam at Point Reyes. He shared the anatomy of the didgeridoo  taught us aboriginal songs around the bonfire. It’s something I will never forget.

Anyway… the line is “Keep your face to the sunshine, and you will not see the shadows”. The amazing thing is, the quote is originally from Helen Keller.

Look forward, never back, right?

I’ve kept that concept in my ‘library of life lessons’ for years… until recently. I reviewed my  blog writings with a close friend whom had never seen my writings. Upon reading my them through another’s eyes, I realized that… we never truly appreciate the distance we’ve traveled, until look back for a minute.

I can’t believe how far I’ve come, the lessons I’ve learned and the strength I’ve gained along the way. I felt like I was reading an epic story of a girl’s struggles, failures and successes, and that girl… was me.

It turns out, looking back can be a good thing.

I just realized that some of my older blogs are buried so y’all may not be able to find them… so I just wanted to share some of the lessons I’ve learned:

  1. Fabulous Jude’s, I know what you mean. Through struggles and losses we learn what we are really made of and for that we can marvel!
